Way back in the first decade of the 21st century I got tired of painting seascapes with impressive banks of clouds, and without trying to, ended up painting something radically different that I thought no-one would like. So I was happily surprised when it got sold immediately, the paint still wet. It looked like this:
Then in 2017 half of Knysna burned down, and along with it, the painting. I very seldom redo a piece, but this time it was intriguing enough to take it on. I’d never really liked the horizon line in the first version, and it’s always interesting to see how the stylistic changes in my approach to paint would look, and here’s the result.
